The referral flow

Concerned about a student? Here's how to get them support.

01

Notice the signal

Missed classes, slipping grades, withdrawn behavior, sudden changes — whatever your gut tells you deserves attention. You don't need a full diagnosis, just a heads-up.

02

Send a referral

Contact your school's THRIVE mentor directly, or route through your school counselor. A quick note is enough: student name, what you've observed, and any context you can share.

03

We take it from there

The mentor adds the student to their check-in list, watches for the patterns you flagged, and coordinates with counselors and families as needed. You'll hear back on major developments.

04

Stay looped in

For students you referred, you'll get periodic updates on progress — enough to know what's working, without pulling you into case management.

What this looks like at the school level

THRIVE at your school, in plain terms.

Embedded, not visiting

Mentors are part of your school community. They know staff, know the culture, and are around often enough to build real relationships.

Coordinated with counselors

THRIVE works alongside — not around — your existing student support team. Clear escalation paths keep everyone on the same page.

Data-informed, privacy-protected

We track trends across attendance, academics, and well-being. All FERPA-compliant, all restricted to authorized staff.

Focused on prevention

Our sweet spot is Tier 1 and 2 support — the everyday help that keeps students from escalating to Tier 3 crisis.

Common questions from educators

What teachers and staff ask us.

How is THRIVE different from an SEL curriculum?

SEL curricula teach social-emotional skills in the classroom. THRIVE is the relational and monitoring layer that catches when students are struggling to apply those skills — or when something outside school is getting in the way.

They work well together, but they're not the same thing.

Will mentors pull students out of my class?

Check-ins happen during scheduled times — often during advisory periods, homeroom, or lunch. When individual conversations do need to happen during instructional time, the mentor coordinates with you in advance and keeps disruption minimal.

What information will I have access to about my students?

For students you've referred or teach regularly, you'll get high-level updates: progress trends, whether check-ins are happening, and any actions the mentor is taking. Sensitive personal information stays with the mentor and licensed counselors.

What if I disagree with how a student's situation is being handled?

Talk to us. Seriously. Mentors know they don't have the full picture — your daily observations are essential to getting it right. We coordinate closely with teachers and counselors, and we adjust based on what you're seeing.

Does THRIVE work with existing MTSS or PBIS frameworks?

Yes. THRIVE is designed to plug into existing multi-tiered support systems, particularly at Tier 1 (universal) and Tier 2 (targeted) levels. We coordinate with your student support team on Tier 3 (intensive) referrals.
